Health and Safety

Health and safety are top priorities, not only for TVA employees but for those who live in places where TVA operates. In communities where TVA nuclear facilities are located, TVA educates area residents about nuclear energy and how to respond in an emergency.

Each year, TVA and state and county emergency management agencies issue calendars to residents living within 10 miles of each TVA nuclear plant. These calendars describe plant operations and include instructions for what residents should do if they hear warning sirens or other indications of a potential problem.

TVA regularly participates in emergency-response drills with other state and federal entities to ensure its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to public health and safety needs.

TVA’s Live Well facilities encourage employees to get fit and stay healthy through the use of onsite fitness centers and programs to control weight, stop smoking, and manage stress.
