Diversity and Human PotentialTVA strives to create a workplace where all employees can fully contribute their diverse talents to achieve TVA’s business objectives. TVA provides resources and training to increase employee awareness of the culture of African-Americans, Asian/Pacific Islander Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, people with disabilities, women, and others.
TVA participated in the commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday by partnering with the University of Tennessee football team to build and dedicate its first Habitat for Humanity house in Knoxville. More than 200 TVA employees and their family members worked hundreds of hours, donating their time and expertise to the project. Because of its success, TVA is sponsoring another Habitat home in 2004. TVA employees are the future, and TVA supports continuing education that enhances the competitiveness of its workforce. TVA University, TVA’s internal training and development organization, offers a broad-ranging curriculum that enables employees to improve and enhance their skills. TVA University is widely known for its innovative approach to corporate education and conducts seminars to share its best practices with other companies. More than 35 organizations from the Tennessee Valley, including federal and state agencies and power distributors, have attended these benchmarking seminars. Companies and organizations from other parts of the country have also participated.
