Michael D. Skaggs

Senior Vice President, Nuclear Construction

Mike Skaggs is TVA’s senior vice president of Nuclear Construction. He is responsible for development and construction of TVA nuclear projects, including the completion of Watts Bar Unit 2 and development activities at the Bellefonte Nuclear Site.

Skaggs has more than 25 years of leadership experience in the nuclear power industry, including top management posts at each of TVA’s three operating nuclear plants. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of Nuclear Generation Development & Construction. He was previously site vice president at TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, where he was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Before accepting the Sequoyah post, Skaggs served as vice president of TVA’s Nuclear Operations Support group. Previously, he was site vice president at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and held several leadership positions of increasing responsibility, including site vice president, at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.

Skaggs joined TVA in 1993 as manager of projects at the Watts Bar plant, where he was in charge of performance analysis for initial plant operations. Skaggs began his career as a nuclear quality assurance engineer for Texas Utilities in 1983 and first came to the Tennessee Valley as a contractor at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in 1990.

A registered professional engineer, Skaggs holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University, in Lubbock, Texas, and earned a senior reactor certification at Watts Bar.

Skaggs and his wife, Lisa, have a daughter and a son and live in Knoxville.
