Joseph P. Grimes
Executive Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer
Joseph P. "Joe" Grimes was named TVA's executive vice president and chief nuclear officer in July 2013.
He is responsible for managing operations to provide stable, base-load power from TVA's six-unit nuclear fleet at Browns Ferry, Sequoyah, and Watts Bar plants. His responsibilities include power plant modification, nuclear support services, nuclear engineering activities, and compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements.
Grimes came to TVA from Exelon Nuclear where he was senior vice president, engineering and technical services for the largest U.S. commercial nuclear power organization. His prior leadership roles include executive assignments at the plant, regional operating group and corporate fleet levels. He joined Exelon (formerly Philadelphia Electric) in 1979 and has more than 30 years of experience in operations, maintenance and engineering management and support of nuclear generating stations. His background includes station construction, initial plant operational start-up and decades of commercial operations.
Grimes has held positions on the Electric Power Research Institute Nuclear Power Council, Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group Executive Council and the Drexel University Engineering Advisory Board.
He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Drexel University and has completed the executive development program at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Grimes has also studied at St. Joseph University's MBA program and is a licensed Senior Reactor Operator.
