Vehicle Laws, Requirements & Information

TVA along with all other Federal Agencies is required by the Energy Policy Act (EPAct05) and Presidential Executive Order (E.O.) 13423 to reduce fuel use in its vehicles. Specifically TVA must:

  1. Ensure that, if the agency operates a fleet of at least 20 motor vehicles, the agency, relative to agency baselines for FY 2005, reduces the fleet’s total consumption of petroleum products by 2% annually through the end of FY 2015
  2. Increase the total fuel consumption that is non-petroleum-based by 10% annually, and use plug-in hybrid (PIH) vehicles when PIH vehicles are commercially available at a cost reasonably comparable, on the basis of life-cycle cost, to non-PIH vehicles.
  3. Increase the purchase and use of alternative fueled vehicles.
  4. Ensure that contracts entered into for contractor operation of agency owned facilities or vehicles require the contractor to comply with all the EO requirements to the same extent as the agency is required.
